How do I remember to take my medications?

RA patients, especially those on triple therapy, can find themselves taking a lot of pills. Sometimes, taking pills can become so routine that it's hard to remember if you've taken them or not. Below are some ideas for remembering to take your medications:

Organizers & Calendars

If you prefer physical reminders, pill organizers are helpful for patients on triple therapy, and pill calendars work well for patients on an injectable. Pill organizers are boxes with labeled compartments to store each day's dose of medication. Pill calendars allow patients to keep track of the dates that their doses are due. All TARGET participants should receive a pill organizer from their coordinating center.

Alarms & Reminders

Your cellphone or smartphone can be programmed to give you daily or weekly reminders to take your medication. Ask the coordinator at your site if you need help with this. You can also set up reminders in calendar programs such as iCal or Outlook.

Smartphone Apps

Several smartphone and tablet apps can help you keep track of all your medications, including your TARGET meds. We recommend Medisafe Meds & Pill Reminder. This handy app, available for both Android and Apple devices, helps users organize and remember their medications, doctors appointments, blood work, and more.
